Pedro Almodovar wins at Venice Film Festival

A jury headed by French actress Isabelle Huppert chose the Spanish director’s film from among 21 films.

Famous Spanish director Pedro Almodovar received the Golden Lion – the main award of the 81st Venice Film Festival for the film “The Room Next Door”. The jury of the film competition announced this the day before.

This film tells about the difficult relationship between a mother – a former war correspondent – and her daughter, who live not far from each other in New York. The main roles were played by actresses Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton.

The Grand Jury Prize (Silver Lion) went to the film “Mountain Bride” by Maura Delpero. The Silver Lion for Best Director went to Brady Corbett (“The Brutalist”).

Nicole Kidman (“Bad Girl”) was recognized as the best actress, and Vincent Lindon (“The Silent Son”) as the best actor.

As a reminder, the Ukrainian Oscar Committee has completed the acceptance of applications and announced the list of four films that are competing for Ukraine’s participation in the Oscars in the Best International Feature Film category.
