US releases three Chinese nationals in exchange for Americans

The Biden administration brokered the release of three Americans in exchange for unidentified Chinese nationals held in the US, a senior administration official familiar with the deal said. Politico reports.

The release of Mark Sweeden, Kai Lee and John Leung is the result of years of intensive negotiations between White House and State Department officials and their Chinese counterparts.
This happened after the release of a US citizen – in September, an unknown Chinese citizen was exchanged for American pastor David Lin, sentenced to 18 years.
According to human rights activists, at least 200 unjustly imprisoned Americans remain in China.
Recall that during a meeting with the current US President Joe Biden, whose term in office ends in January, Chinese leader Xi Jinping assured of his readiness to work with the administration of the newly elected US President Donald Trump.
Note that official Beijing did not criticize the US decision to allow Ukraine to use long-range ATACMS missiles on Russian territory.
